Who Wants to be a Treellionare? - In Celebration of China's Arbor Day

China is celebrating their Arbor Day on March 12!

I found out that not too many parents are aware of Arbor Day. That's why I'm blogging about it and attempt to give information about it.

Arbor Day is an international holiday that encourages individuals, families, groups, organizations, schools (and just everybody) to plant trees. And with the recent tragedies that the world suffered this past few months, it is the best time to plant trees and give back what Mother Nature deserves.

In every country, the date of National Arbor Day varies depending on the best time of the year to plant trees in that specific area. In the US, it's usually 4th Friday of April but some states chose to celebrate theirs on other dates because of the weather issue.

There are so many ways of celebrating Arbor Day as a family. You can go through arborday.org and read through their suggestions. But this website for kids I really love! And I'm sure your kids will love it too!

Check out and have fun with Who Wants to be a Treellionare?

Turkey Day

Thanksgiving is almost here. This great American holiday provides an opportunity to pause and give thanks for everything. Just like everyone else, I have plenty to be thankful for. I actually have a long list. But what tops it is my family of course: my darling daughter (who will be wearing one of her favorite girls holiday dresses for our Thanksgiving dinner- she'll be just soooo cute) and my supportive husband, of course. Other things on my list include having a nice career, a wonderful best friend, and of course, an over-sized bird for Thanksgiving dinner! Now, I just want to share some fun facts about America’s favorite bird:
1. According the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 45 million turkeys are cooked and eaten in the United States at Thanksgiving.
2. Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be our national bird. He actually thought that the wild turkey should be the bird to represent America because he found it to be more regal than the eagle.
3. A turkey under 16 weeks of age is called a fryer. A five to seven month old turkey is called a roaster.
4. The average person consumes 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving Day.
5. The Native American name for turkey is 'firkee'.
6. A turkey under sixteen weeks of age is called a fryer, while a young roaster is five to seven months old.
7. Some turkeys can actually fly! The wild ones can fly for short distances.
8. Turkeys can have heart attacks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Making Thanksgiving 2009 the Best One Yet!

Thanksgiving is one of the biggest holidays we celebrate. It's also a perfect time to count our blessings. How do you plan to spend yours? If you ask me, I simply want to make it the best one yet.

Well, I've got my turkey now, so I'll just google stuffing recipes that would best complement the bird. I will also get a chardonnay--the right wine for the right occasion, in my opinion. I also plan to have activities for the family to enjoy, like games and some dancing perhaps.

I'm also thinking about dressing up my daughter in something white and elegant. Since she has a couple of girls holiday dresses in her closet, this won't be a problem at all. I bet she'll look so adorable!

Universal Children’s Day

Moms, your little princess deserves to know how much you love and appreciate her. Make this day extra wonderful for her! Here are some ways to make this day special:

1. Take her to the library or the museum. Yes, you read it right. These places can be fun for your little girl. Library activities are generally free to the public. They have storytelling for kids, mother-daughter book clubs, and arts and crafts. Museums are fun too. Period.

2. See a movie with her. Let her pick the movie she likes and the just enjoy the whole thing with her. Don't forget the popcorn.

3. Bake something WITH her. Cookies, brownies, muffins--whatever! Baking moments with your daughter can truly be fun and unforgettable.

4. If you're the super busy type of mom, you can always get her something affordable yet special. Girl holiday dresses, children's books and other educational toys are just some of the things you could get for her.

November 20 is Universal Children’s Day. I just want to say Happy Children's Day to all the kiddos out there!
