Turkey Day
Thanksgiving is almost here. This great American holiday provides an opportunity to pause and give thanks for everything. Just like everyone else, I have plenty to be thankful for. I actually have a long list. But what tops it is my family of course: my darling daughter (who will be wearing one of her favorite girls holiday dresses for our Thanksgiving dinner- she'll be just soooo cute) and my supportive husband, of course. Other things on my list include having a nice career, a wonderful best friend, and of course, an over-sized bird for Thanksgiving dinner! Now, I just want to share some fun facts about America’s favorite bird: 1. According the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 45 million turkeys are cooked and eaten in the United States at Thanksgiving. 2. Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be our national bird. He actually thought that the wild turkey should be the bird to represent America because he found it to be more regal than the eagle. 3. A turkey under 16 weeks of age is called a fryer. A five to seven month old turkey is called a roaster. 4. The average person consumes 4,500 calories on Thanksgiving Day. 5. The Native American name for turkey is 'firkee'. 6. A turkey under sixteen weeks of age is called a fryer, while a young roaster is five to seven months old. 7. Some turkeys can actually fly! The wild ones can fly for short distances. 8. Turkeys can have heart attacks.
Thanksgiving is one of the biggest holidays we celebrate. It's also a perfect time to count our blessings. How do you plan to spend yours? If you ask me, I simply want to make it the best one yet.
Well, I've got my turkey now, so I'll just google stuffing recipes that would best complement the bird. I will also get a chardonnay--the right wine for the right occasion, in my opinion. I also plan to have activities for the family to enjoy, like games and some dancing perhaps.
I'm also thinking about dressing up my daughter in something white and elegant. Since she has a couple of girls holiday dressesin her closet, this won't be a problem at all. I bet she'll look so adorable!
Photo blogging is posting pictures on blogs instead of words or text. This is one way of showing your daily best shots or using photos to let people know what happened on your day or what you feel.
Photoblogging is also a great way to show the world how adorable and cute your child is. You can also post your child's photo wearing different costumes or beautiful dresses everyday. Who knows? A talent/model agent might discover him/her.
You can try blogger.com or photoblog.com to create you own photoblog.
I found this news article and it really bothers me. Apparently, American Girl released a new doll named Gwen which is actually a homeless doll. My initial reaction was that the company is raising funds for the homeless so the $95 price tag was justified. But when I read the article fully, I was aghast.
Where did July go? Soon it'll be Christmas. Uhmm, okay so that's taking it too far. Anyway, I like the beginning of each month because of the fresh feelings it brings. It somehow makes you feel hopeful of the coming days. Even if that coming days would mean being busy and crazy with your kids' school schedule, your husband's work schedule plus your altered ME time. (Hey, every Moms deserve to have ME time to keep them sane, right?)
I'm sure by this time you have gone to the nearest theatre to watch Harry and his friends because the moment it was NOW SHOWING, your kids dragged you to watch it. I'm also sure you have stories to share about your recent Potter experience. And I am so jealous! I have yet to watch it because I was really tied up. I have work by day and hands-on Mom by night so I really have no time. My daughter's 1.6 years old and only have her eyes on Dora and Barney plus she's not yet allowed at theatres. I am hoping that I get to watch it next week with my co-EliteDresser, Kat.
Instead I'm going to talk about a little trivia on Hermione's Yule ball dress. According to an insider (probably a rumor), the yule ball dress is worth $25,000! The fabric was from France and it was made of very fine and expensive chiffon cloth. It was so delicate that the fabric breaks easily. I'm no expert on expensive fabrics but are they really like that? You spend $$$ on something that will rip easily?Whew! Anyway, Emma (Hermione) had to walk with utmost care with the party dress on and they kept 4 reserves of that dress on the set just in case it rips. Some sewers and designers tried to imitate the dress but failed because according to them, it takes time and a lot of effort to copy it perfectly. Well it only shows that the Harry Potter designer who did the Yule ball dress deserves a round of applause.
Still, I will not spend $25,000 on a dress that breaks easily! I'm sure you won't either. Goodthing EliteDresses prides on carefully handpicked girls dresses that are affordable and of highest quality.
How do you choose your daughter's dresses? Do you ask for their opinion or buy whatever suit your taste? Those are the questions that hover in my head when I look at my fast growing 1.6 year old baby girl.
Once in a while I give her little exercises to test her abilities to choose and decide for herself and it amazes me that she can really come to a solution. After giving her a bath, I ask her to go through her closet and choose whatever shirt or dress she wants to wear for the day. She'll be glad to do it (maybe because she sees Mommy rummaging at her own closet too? ) and would give me the one she chose. Just to test her some more, I'll get another shirt and ask her if she likes it instead. I'll know that she decided on the dress she picked early on because she would insist that she wear the one she picked. :)
But as they get older, they tend to choose dresses that are a bit too much for our taste, don't they? I know because my Mom and I used to fight over which dress to wear hehehe..But nah, it's a matter of choosing which suits you both. One thing is for sure, I wouldn't make my daughter wear uncomfortable girl's dresses just to impress someone else. As early as today, I am picky with the type of garment I chose for her dresses. And I suggest you do the same too. Make sure that you choose the types that suits your weather. Like velvet is a no-no for summer. Even if the event is under an airconditioned room, chances are it will still be a bit warm because of all those other guests.
However, enjoy choosing and buying girl's dresses you think will look good on your daughter because sooner or later she'll be old enough to buy her own. :)
In India, a 15 year old girl stands just 1 foot, 11 inches! Her name's Jyoti Amge. Although she's way smaller than her age group, she still dreams big. She wants to be an actress someday and tries to live a normal life. Luckily, the people around her help her live normally. She was given her special desk and chair on her classroom, clothes and accessories are made for her too. Plus a very supportive family helps a lot.

I was a little worried about ordering a dress on-line, especially because the price was so reasonable, but the dress exceeded my expectations!
The materials and craftsmanship were wonderful and, if possible, the dress was even cuter in real life than in the picture. One note is that the skirt was a little sheer - not so much that you could distinguish her legs, but we had to use white bloomers to cover up her flowered underpants.
The sizing was good since we ordered just about a month before the event, but if we'd ordered any earlier, the dress would have been pretty tight - if you're ordering early, maybe consider leaving some growing room.
Overall, great experience, would recommend both the dress and the company.

June 21st is Father's day and the honor we gave our Mothers on Mother's Day is equally applicable to any father out there.
Fathers are special too since they are the pillars that often holds a family together. They are most often than not the person who has to work and earn hard for the family. They deserve to have a day of their own. And there's still time to think of how to surprise Daddy!
How about treating him for a spa massage? Those sore muscles surely need to loosen. Or maybe a simple dinner with his favorite dishes will do.
Whatever you come up with, isn't it nice to dress a bit for Daddy's special day? Check out our choices of pretty girls dresses. :)
Oh and watch out for EliteDresses up coming Father's Day Sale! :) I'm sure you'll find yourself a great deal.
The dress features Navy Blue satin top and Navy Blue chiffon skirts. Navy Blue chiffon ribbon in back to create a beautiful bow. Two layers of skirts: Navy Blue chiffon over burgundy satin. *** My personal favorite! My girl can wear it in replacement of the conventional black dresses that we are used to see. I like how the color of the flowers contrast with the fabric's and for its price, it's a STEAL!!!!!
