How to Make an Easter Necklace

My daughter loves Easter crafts and I love the fact that she likes to create them with me.

Here’s one pretty Easter project we did last year. I think this can go well with girls Easter dresses. Anyways, creating this easy-to-make Easter necklace is a nice way to spend time with your little angel. Follow these few easy steps and enjoy!

Crafts Materials Needed:

Beading wire
2 crimp tubes, silver
3 6mm yellow beads
1 fishhook clasp, silver
pliers

Using wire cutters cut about 18 inches of beading wire.
Using the last 5 inches of one end of the wire, string one crimp tube and one half of the fishhook clasp.
String on the yellow beads.
Attach the other crimp tube to the other end of the wire and then the second half of the fishhook clasp.
Don’t forget to cut off any excess wire.

I read this article from Wall Street Journal and I'm just appalled on how kids are growing up these days! I'm all for teaching kids fashion and all that but with much care please!

A slice from the article: "Some of them are tall and some of them are short," Ms. Barba said.
A statement from a Mom who brought her 6 year old daughter to a fashion show in an attempt to teach her about the fashion world. Let me just say that I think Ms. Barba could have added, some are thin and some are not-so-thin. Don't you agree that kids these days are being mislead by the high fashion magazines they read and super thin models they idolize.

Yes it's cute and all that because these kids have their own BLOGS! and yes, kids say the darnest things! but I hope it won't give our kids a bad notion.

First Communion, The Orthodox Way

First communion is a religious ceremony commonly associated with the Roman Catholic Church, but how about the other religious groups, say the Orthodox Churches?Do they have First Communion? If so, how do they practice it?

Both Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church hold Eucharistic service, but practice Communion differently. The Roman Catholic Church traditionally separates Baptism from First Communion. In practice, the Catholic Church baptizes the child as a way to welcome it to the Holy family of God. Only when the child has reached the age of reason and has successfully met all Church requirements will then the child be allowed to First Communion.

The Eastern Orthodox Church practices communion differently. The Eastern Orthodox Church links Baptism, Chrismation (Confirmation) and Holy Communion. They practice them all at the same time! Very interesting, right? Children receive Chrismation (Confirmation) at Baptism. Parents carry their infants to the chalice to receive Holy Communion. Then the children receive communion from the chalice with a spoon called a "cochlear". During Communion, the bread and wine are mixed in the chalice. The spoon contains a small piece of the prosfir, Holy Bread, soaked in wine. Children may receive communion without confession or fasting until the age of reason. They are encouraged to commune at every opportunity.

Choosing the perfect hairstyle to go with your daughter's First Communion dress can be exciting and on some levels, challenging! But armed with a blower in one hand, you can do magic! Especially if you're not making any plans to set your daughter for a hair appointment with a stylist.

Finding a hairstyle that suits her is easy. If money is not an object fo you, then you can choose to take the easy road: pick up the phone and make that hair appointment with the stylist. But if you're just like me, regular a do-it-all mom, then you already know the wisdom behind styling your daughter's hair yourself. With enough time to practice, you can certainly get the look you want for your daughter.

Here’s one First Communion hairstyle for you. Girls with medium to long hair can try this easy but elegant updo. Hope you find this post helpful and easy to follow.

· Wash your daughter’s hair. Then moisturize it with a hair cream while it’s wet.

· Split the hair in two sections to make two nice ponytails. Remember to be gentle as you pull the hair back.

· Use a curling iron or hot rollers to curl out all the ends of the ponytails, taking small sections and twisting them.

· Secure the hair curls by using hair pin and bobby pins around the base of the ponytail. Check the top, bottoms and sides.

· Use a hairspray to hold the bun in place.

· Finish up by adding Faux flowers.

Earlier today my daughter and I saw many people from the Church with ash crosses on their foreheads on our way home. We suddenly had a conversation about communions and other Church-related stuff, then our topic shifted to Easter and, of course girls Easter dresses. We had a great talk.

So just minutes ago, the idea of reading the Bible came to me. I don’t mean to sound preachy but what do you think about us moms reading the Bible to our kids every night of Lent? We can use this time to teach our kids about Jesus and the good news of salvation. Especially if your daughter has a first communion coming up, teaching her the wisdom behind it will certainly help her appreciate this exercise of faith. It would also be great to talk about the Last Supper and how her First Communion relates to this 

Countdown to Easter

Ash Wednesday signals the beginning of Lent. It is traditionally observed by millions of Catholics and other Christian denominations. Lent is a somber time which is the 40 days coming up to Easter. The countdown will officially start in a matter of hours. Wow! I better start looking for my daughter’s girls Easter dress. And why not? Christian families are already starting to prepare for Easter, take the First Family for example.

I’m sure we're already familiar with Obama’s Easter Egg Roll. To show support for First Lady Michelle Obama’s effort to fight childhood obesity, the White House picked “Ready, Set, Go!” to be this year’s theme for Easter. The 2010 Easter Egg Roll is on April 5and will feature some live music, cooking stations, storytelling, sports courts, and, of course, Easter egg rolling. Let’s just hope there won’t be a lot of waiting to get onto the White House grounds this time :-)

Looking for a nice pair of shoes to complement your daughter's dress?

When you buy a pair of shoes for your little girl, you must always have her comfort in mind. Your little girl in heels? Not talking about crib booties here...I think all women look great in heels, high or low. Heels make you look like you got legs up to your neck. But little girls in heels? I feel It's wrong on many levels, so I veto that. Yes, they do add style, appeal, and all the drama a WOMAN wants. But I'm not at all comfortable imagining my little girl in those hurtful heels!

I've recently read something about adjustable shoes for the ladies. Wow, I mean those shoes can transition from high-to-low positions within seconds! Now that's a smart buy for us and so how I wish I could find shoes like that for my little girl.

Hmmm, now how about sassy sandals to go with a girl holiday dress? Sandal are super comfy.
And they're still best-sellers to me. My daughter can go anywhere in them and still look cute. These days sandals can practically be worn to any indoor or outdoor event.There are so many types of sandals to choose from nowadays. Chappal, hemp sandals, thong sandals, geta sandals( Japanese sandals that look great with girls Chinese dress) gladiator sandals, and saltwater
sandals are just some of the many types of sandals you can get for your child.

In one of my old posts, I talked about how extremely comfortable flats are. Flats can surely complement your daughter's First communion dress. I've seen so many little girls wear them to churches and I think they really look great.

When should girls start wearing make up?

As a mother, do you decide when your child should be allowed to start wearing make up? My daughter personally doesn't like wearing one (jump for joy!). On school programs where we are invited to attend, I see half of her batch mates wearing different kinds of make up.

I guess this question never really occurred to me because I didn't encounter it with my daughter (yet?). But nevertheless, I want to ask it and present it as it is a reality. It is what most Moms encounter with their daughters.

I noticed that there are girls as young as 7 who wear make up just because they want to. And like my own daughter, there are also others like her who doesn't like wearing them. We all have our own age preference. Some Moms I talked to is okay with their child wearing it even at 7. Others think that kids under 10 wearing make up is inappropriate. For me, my daughter can start wearing make up when she's old enough to buy her own set. If not, she can use mine on special occasions but that's it.

It really boils down to, what you and your daughter can compromise. She can wear make up on special occasions and on ordinary days as long as she doesn't over do it, right? I've seen emo kids wearing black inspired make up and I can't stop myself but cringe when I look at them.

So Moms, it's your responsibility to guide your daughters on putting the right amount of make up. Make it fun and it'll be a great bonding moment.
